Stopping at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, Florida was a great find! We really didn’t know what to expect. We initially put in the address in Google Maps and ended up at the back end of the park. Needless to say, there was no entrance. So we asked some neighbors who were outdoors, and they gave some alternate directions. We finally found it. If you are looking to get out and enjoy nature, do some walking, this is where you want to be. They can be found at:
4150 S. Suncoast Blvd.
Homosassa FL 34446
Admission was $13 for adults and $5 for children.
For those that are curious (me included) about what the word Homosassa means, I have an answer: Homosassa is a Native American Creek word meaning “place of many pepper plants”. Before the white man came, this area was home to the Creek and Seminole Indians.
They have a great outdoor zoo/nature walk trail. We enjoyed the outdoors and watching animals we don’t normally see in Minnesota. It’s one of the best places to see manatees according to locals.
